Our Mission

Strategic Infrastructure Capital Program

Smart Air Defense is dedicated to transforming the indoor environmental quality (IEQ) of public schools across the country. We help districts modernize critical building systems—HVAC, boilers, lighting, electrical, energy management, building envelope, and water systems—without adding debt or cutting into their budgets.

We’re proud sponsors of the National Council on School Facilities (NCSF), an organization whose mission perfectly aligns with ours. Together, we’re advancing a national conversation about creating safe, sustainable, and equitable learning environments for all students.

Our Leadership & Global Partnerships

Peter Cantone

Smart Air Defense is deeply committed to advancing global standards for healthier buildings.

  • We are a proud member of the AirClub, and signatory to the Global Pledge for Healthy Indoor Air.
  • We are also an active member of the Healthy Workplaces Coalition, supporting initiatives that promote health, productivity, and well-being in the built environment.

Our Founder, Peter Cantone, serves as a Commissioner on the Global Commission for Healthy Indoor Air and as Chairman of the IEQ and Fertility Campaign, a specialized initiative within the world-renowned Climate Control Middle East digital and print publication. His leadership helps bridge the gap between science, policy, and practical implementation—bringing global insight to local school infrastructure challenges.

Our Approach

Energy Savings as a Service

We combine state and federal funding with private capital through public-private partnerships (P3s) to deliver zero-debt infrastructure upgrades.

This model isn’t about “shared savings” or temporary fixes—it’s about guaranteed results from month one. Schools gain a predictable, utility-style expense while investors earn returns from verified efficiency savings.

The outcome:

  • Healthier classrooms that meet and exceed ASHRAE 241 standards
  • 30–50% annual savings in energy, maintenance, and repair costs
  • Modern, efficient, and resilient schools built to serve generations

What’s Possible

Energy as a Service

✅ Replace outdated boilers with high-efficiency heat pumps

✅ Refurbish HVAC systems to achieve near 95% efficiency

✅ Upgrade to disinfecting LED lighting

✅ Integrate solar PV, energy storage, and smart controls

✅ Enhance building envelope and water efficiency

Let’s Work TogetherLet’s Work Together

If you’re an engineer, architect, school district leader, nonprofit, or consultant working to improve indoor air quality and energy performance in schools—let’s connect.

There’s too much at stake to work in silos. Together, we can stop patching and start transforming the environments where our children learn, grow, and thrive.
